FAQs

Rapid Antigen Home Tests are intended to provide an indicative presence of COVID-19 in symptomatic patients, by detecting SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein antigens.

The CareStart™ COVID-19 Antigen Home Test has been locally and internally validated as an effective screening tool against COVID-19.

Once the testing procedure is complete, the test results take only ten minutes.

Repeat testing is recommended (between 24-48 hours after your first test) if there is an ongoing suspicion of infection, being in a high risk setting or where there is an occupational risk or other requirement.

Rapid Antigen Home Tests are most effective at indicating COVID-19 during the contagious period, within the first 5 days of onset of symptoms.

Rapid Antigen Home testing is for use by persons with symptoms. It helps to indicate if you have COVID-19. If the RAHT is positive you must go for a PCR test.

Rapid antigen tests are used as an indicator of COVID-19. If you receive a positive result, you must immediately seek a laboratory PCR test to diagnose if you have COVID-19.

If you get a negative result, it is less likely that you have COVID-19, but you still need to follow all public health advice on limiting the spread of COVID-19. If you feel unwell or have symptoms, you should get a PCR at a testing site as soon as possible to confirm that you do not have COVID-19.

As well as positive and negative results, a test may produce an ‘invalid’ result, which means it has not worked correctly. If this happens, either perform a new test or get a laboratory PCR test done at a testing site.
